HC Deb 27 October 1988 vol 139 c333W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what social fund payments are available for maternity needs in excess of the fixed grant of £85 and, where such payments are not available, from what alternative sources applicants are advised to seek help.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

No other social fund payments are available for maternity expenses. Help is provided in the form of regular weekly benefits which, for those not in work, include income support with its added family premium and, for low-income working families, by family credit.

People on income support may make an application to the social fund for a payment not related to their maternity needs.
