To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement regarding the steps taken by Her Majesty's Government to protect dolphins in British waters.

All species of dolphin in British waters are protected by the provisions of Section 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, by virtue of their listing in schedule 5 of the Act.
