To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many copies of(a) Lords weekly Hansard, (b) Lords daily Hansard and (c) Lords weekly Hansard index were sold by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1987 and to date in 1988; and what were the figures for each year since 1970;

(2) how many bound volumes of (a) Commons and (b) Lords bound volumes of Hansard were sold by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1987 and to date in 1988 and what were the figures for each year since 1970;

(3) how many copies of (a) Commons weekly Hansard, (b) Commons daily Hansard and (c) Commons weekly Hansard index were sold by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1987 and to date in 1988, and what were the figures for each year since 1970.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is the current cost of each single bound volume of CommonsHansard; what is the amount of subsidy per volume; and what were the figures for each year since 1970;

(2) what is the current cost of each single bound volume of Lords Hansard; what is the amount of subsidy per volume; and what were the figures for each year since 1970;

(3) what is the current price per copy of Commons weekly Hansard; and what were the figures for each year since 1970;

(4) what is the current price per copy of Lords weekly Hansard; and what were the figures for each year since 1970.

The estimated average number of copies sold per issue for each year since 1980 is given in the table. I regret that figures for earlier years are no longer available.

subsidy per issue could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, since the estabishment of the trading fund in 1980 the total Government subsidy has reduced in real terms by 66 per cent.
