Between June 1987 and June 1988, the latest date for which figures are available, there was a net increase of 446,000 in the numbers of employees in employment and self-employed people in the service industries of Great Britain. The figures have been adjusted for the effects of seasonal variations.

§ Mr. LeeThere are no figures for job gains and job losses. Between June 1980 and June 1988, the latest date for which figures are available, there was a net increase of 469,000 in the size of the workforce in employment in Great Britain. This was attributable to a net increase of 1,239,000 in part-time employment (of which 337,000 were participants on work-related Government training programmes), offset by a net decrease of 824,000 in full-time employment.
The work force in employment is the sum of employees in employment, the self-employed, members of HM forces and participants in work-related Government training programmes.
