To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he has any plans to introduce further changes in the field of equal pay legislation.

Mr. Nicholls

Certain changes to this legislation will be necessary to implement our obligations under the EC directive on equal treatment in occupational social security schemes. The proposed changes were set out in a consultation document issued by the Department of Social Security on 22 July 1988.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State will continue to keep the working of the Equal Pay Act under review.
