To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a further statement on the enterprise allowance scheme.

Mr. Cope

Since the enterprise allowance scheme began in 1982 a total of 384,000 unemployed people have been helped to start their own businesses. These businesses have also created jobs for others: for every 100 businesses operating after three years, an additional 114 jobs have been created.
