Mr. Lee

Between April 1979 and April 1988 the highest decile of the gross weekly earnings distribution for full-time adult employees increased by 164 per cent. for males and by 178 per cent. for females. Over the same period the lowest decile increased by 113 per cent. for males and 125 per cent. for females.

Mr. Lee

It is estimated from the new earnings survey that about 30 per cent. of the adult work force, including both full-time and part-time employees, earned less than £3.30 per hour in April 1988.
