Whether they are satisfied with their long-term plans for securing the presence of an ice patrol vessel in the South West Atlantic in support of the national interest in that area and in the Antarctic.

Yes. The extensive refit which HMS ENDURANCE underwent in 1986 is evidence of the Government's commitment to maintain such a presence until the mid-1990s. Our plans beyond then will be kept under review in the light of developments in the Antarctic.
