§ Lord Colwynasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether, in view of the recent disaster aboard the Piper Alpha oil rig and the consequent allegations of the inadequacy of the evacuation procedures, they have had sufficient time to initiate evaluation of the emergency oil rig evacuation system proposed by McDonald Prain, W. S. Atkins and Ferranti International, submitted to the Department of Energy on 29th September 1988.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Energy (Baroness Hooper)The proposals have been submitted to the Emergency Evacuation Steering Committee, which advises the department on new research and development expenditure in this field. They are currently undergoing a full evaluation.
