§ Mr. WaldegraveMy right hon. and learned Friend last met Mr. Shevardnadze in New York on 26 September. They discussed arms control questions; regional conflicts, including the role of the United Nations in resolving them; CSCE and human rights; and bilateral relations.
§ 68. Mr. SimsTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current state of Anglo-Soviet relations.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAnglo-Soviet relations are better than for many years, and we welcome this. We maintain an active dialogue with the Soviet leadership in order to secure progress in arms control; on the resolution of regional conflicts; greater respect for human rights; and increase in trade; and more contacts at all levels between our two peoples.
