To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when the Government will respond formally to the report by Bronwen Cohen for the Equal Opportunities Commission, which forms part of the European Commission's study on the provision of nursery schooling and childcare.

As the report was prepared for the European Commission the Government have no plans to make a formal response. The report's findings will be taken into account by a number of Government Departments, particularly in the context of the ministerial group on women's issues in its consideration of childcare needs.
