§ Mr. FearnTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has to ensure that hospital energy programmes and transportation facilities do not add to the greenhouse effect.
§ Mrs. CurrieThere is a highly successful energy efficiency programme in the National Health Service which since 1978–79 has achieved aggregate savings of over £300 million. Fossil fuel consumption is currently reducing at a rate of 2 per cent. per annum. We are reviewing our policies on transport in the National Health Service to see if the environmental impact can be reduced.
