To ask the Prime Minister if she will give the reasons for her latest visit to the United States of America; who invited her; by what means she travelled; how many civil servants accompanied her; and what was the total cost involved.

The Prime Minister

I visited Washington at the invitation of President Reagan. I travelled by RAF VC10 and was accompanied by three officials and seven support staff. A provisional estimate of the total cost is £50,000.

As is customary official gifts were given to President Reagan and to a small number of officials.
