To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he intends to increase the social fund budget in line with inflation.

Mr. Scott

The total sum available for payments from the social fund in 1989–90 will be the same as for 1988–89. The budget for community care grants will be £60 million and the gross budget for loans will be £143 million.
