HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c417W
Mr. Ted Garrett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if there is any restriction on Russian fishing vessels entering the River Tyne to buy the remains of herring catches from local fishermen.

Mr. Donald Thompson

I have been asked to reply.

There is no blanket ban on Russian vessels operating as fish factory ships entering the Tyne, or on vessels of any other country of origin. However any particular klondyking operation is subject to United Kingdom transhipment licensing. My Department would consider any application on its merits.
