To ask the Secretary of State for Health when he will make a statement on the implications for community care policy of the Griffiths report.

Mr. Mellor

I refer the hon. Members to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Eddisbury (Mr. Goodlad) on 24 October at column66.

Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the actions taken by each health authority to follow the advice on community care issued in DHSS circular HC(88)43.

Mr. Mellor

The circular provides guidelines for health authorities in formulating their short-term programmes for 1989–90. Reports from regional health authorities on their programmes will be submitted to the Department in 1989. These reports will describe action on the specific service objectives detailed in the circular: this will not cover all action in relation to community care.
