§ Mr. Norman LamontThe latest year for which a reliable breakdown of capital allowances is available is 1983. Figures are published in table 4.7 of "Inland Revenue Statistics 1987". The total shown under other allowances for plant, machinery and vehicles relates mainly to company cars. An equivalent estimate for 1978 is in table 3.6 of "Inland Revenue Statistics 1983". Information on the number of company cars for which capital allowances are claimed is not available.
