§ Mr. Tim Smith
To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when he expects to respond to the recommendations of the committee chaired by Sir Ron Dearing on accounting standards.

§ Mr. Maude
The Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies, to which the report was addressed, is now considering the Dearing recommendations. I understand that the committee aims to reach a view early in 1989. The Government will want to consider the views of all interested parties before reaching a decision on those recommendations which require action by the Government.
