To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what are his proposals for the rate support grant settlement for 1989–90.

Mr. Ridley

I am today issuing a consultation paper to the local authority associations and local authorities setting out my detailed proposals for the 1989–90 rate support grant settlement. The associations and individual local authorities have been asked for their written comments and representations on these proposals by 2 December.

Copies of the consultation paper have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
