To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what have been the numbers of appeals against refusals by local authorities for planning permissions for(a) mosques, (b) gudwaras and (c) Hindu temples; and how many were successful for 1986, 1987 and up to the latest date for 1988.

According to the Department's records, the following appeals were lodged against refusals of planning permission in respect of:

(a) Mosques

  • 1986 One appeal: allowed.
  • 1987 None recorded.
  • 1988 One appeal: not yet determined.

(b) Gudwaras

  • None recorded.

(c) Hindu Temples

  • 1986 One appeal: dismissed.
