The new working arrangements under Fresh Start have improved staff continuity in the wings with benefit to staff-prisoner relationships and prisoner care. Daytime education classes have begun for adult male prisoners. The physical education programme has been extended. Prisoners' privileges have been extended to include use of personal walkman-type cassette recorders and the borrowing of cassettes from the prison library. A television has been provided on the ground floor of the male hospital providing additional associated recreation for the more disturbed patients. A prison visitor scheme has started. A project is in progress to provide courts with better information for making bail decisions.
The central guidance on suicide prevention has been fully implemented.
