HC Deb 09 November 1988 vol 140 cc225-6W
19. Mr. Conway

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress he is making in reducing hospital waiting lists in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Over the last two years my right hon. and learned Friend has allocated an extra £6.6 million to reduce hospital waiting lists and waiting times. By March 1988 the number of people waiting for in-patient treatment fell by around 5 per cent. This year it will be possible for 30,000 extra out-patients to be seen or have tests done, 8,600 extra in-patients to be treated and 3,760 extra day cases to be treated.
