To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he will take to ensure that the Central Electricity Generating Board complies with the European Community directive on sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution will continue to be responsible for ensuring that emissions standards are complied with.
