§ Mr. CopeTable A provides YTS accident figures by quarter for fatal, major and minor injuries for the period 1 April to 30 September 1988.
Table B provides the number of YTS placements closed and not accepted on health and safety grounds by quarter for the period 1 January to 20 June 1988. Figures for the quarter 1 July to 30 September are not yet available.

However, the Training Agency's figures will include a number of accidents to trainees in educational establishments and road traffic accidents which may not have been reportable to the Health and Safety Executive had the individuals been employed. 2 Major injuries are classified according to the severity criteria laid down in the Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurences Regulations 1985. These regulations which came into force on 1 April 1986 reclassified fractured wrists and ankles as major injuries which were not considered to be major under the previous regulations, the Notification of Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1980 (NADOR). 3 This figure includes one road traffic accident.
