HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c763W
Mr. McCrindle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport on how many occasions high and low predictions of traffic density prepared by his Department have been(a) 5 per cent., (b) 10 per cent., (c) 11 to 20 per cent., (d) 21 to 30 per cent., (e) 31 to 40 per cent. and (f) 41 per cent., and above out; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The traffic flow on 37 road schemes opened since 1981 has been monitored one year after opening and compared with the traffic predicted at the planning stage for the same date. The comparison is with the average of the high and low forecasts. The results are:

Number of schemes for which traffic was:
Per cent. Over predicted Under predicted
0–10 8 3
10–20 4 6
20–30 3 4
30–40 1 3
over 40 5 0

Overall, traffic on these schemes was overpredicted by 7 per cent.
