HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c752W
1. Mr. Conway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress his Department is making in reducing burglary; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

There were 60,000 fewer burglaries in England and Wales in the 12 months ending June 1988, compared with the corresponding period to June 1987, a decrease of 6 per cent. This is very encouraging and great credit is due to the police and to the general public, who, with the Home Department's support are becoming increasingly aware of the important role that we can all play in reducing crime.
