HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 cc697-8W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what action he intends to take against retailers who sell faulty second-hand gas cookers; and if he will introduce amendments to existing legislation to make them liable to prosecution.

Mr. Forth

Public consultation has already taken place on draft regulations which will ensure that suppliers of both new and second-hand gas cookers meet proper standards of safety. These regulations will be laid before the House shortly, to come into force early in 1989. They will, of course, empower the courts to impose suitable penalties on retailers and others who contravene these regulations.
