HC Deb 27 May 1988 vol 134 c417W
Mr. Graham

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people living in the area of(a) Renfrew district council and (b) Inverclyde district council are receiving invalidity pensions.

Mr. Portillo

I regret that information is not available in the precise form requested. The Department's local offices at Johnstone, Paisley and Port Glasgow serve the area covered by Renfrew district council and the local offices at Greenock and Port Glasgow serve the area covered by Inverclyde district council, but their boundaries are not conterminous.

The numbers of people claiming sickness benefit or invalidity pension at these local offices as at 30 April 1988, the latest date for which information is available, is as follows:

Number
Johnstone ILO 3,050
Paisley ILO 7,022
Port Glasgow ILO 1,868
Greenock ILO 4,152

I regret that separate records are not kept of the numbers of claimants in receipt of sickness benefit and invalidity pension.

The source of the above information is a 100 per cent. count of cases in action.
