Mr. Higgins

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether British nationals are permitted to receive and wear official foreign honours awarded later than five years after the end of the last war.

Mr. Mellor

The Foreign and Commonwealth Orders ('B') Regulations which govern the acceptance and wearing by persons not in the service of the Crown of orders, decorations and medals conferred by Heads or Governments of foreign states and by members of the Commonwealth overseas of which the Queen is not the Head of State stipulate inter alia that Permission will be not given in respect of Orders relating to services wholly rendered more than five years before the question of eligibility for permission is raised.

Similar rules apply to persons in the service of the Crown.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether British nationals are permitted to receive and wear foreign commemorative medals under military regulations A, "Awards of Medals".
