HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 c323W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the accident on 10 May involving a Tornado GR1 which crashed near Ankum. in northern Germany.

Mr. Freeman

On 10 May, during the course of a training exercise, a Royal Air Force Tornado GR1 of 17 Squadron, RAF Bruggen crashed some five miles north west of Ankum in the Federal Republic of Germany. Both members of the crew were killed. There were no civilian casualties, but there was minor damage to a farm building near the crash site. The RAF has convened a board of inquiry to examine fully all the circumstances of the accident, with a view to establishing its cause, and preventing recurrence. A summary of the board's findings will be published in due course and a copy placed in the Library of the House.
