HC Deb 25 May 1988 vol 134 cc185-6W
32. Mr. McFall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with education authorities on the opting out of Scottish schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

None.

36. Mr. McAvoy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received concerning the opting out of schools from local authority management; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

We have published no proposals on this subject and have received few representations specifically concerned with it; but I am aware that a recent independent opinion poll indicated that 31 per cent. of parents supported the proposition that parents should be allowed to take their school out of education authority control if a majority wished to do so.

38. Mr. McKelvey

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to announce his plans for the opting out of Scottish schools; what arrangements will be made for consultation with interested parties; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

No decisions have been taken about the introduction of legislation on this subject.
