HC Deb 25 May 1988 vol 134 cc170-1W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the answer of 18 May,Official Report, column 462, if, in the light of the acquittal of eight defendants at Knightsbridge Crown court on 20 May, following the sending of the log books of police officers involved for forensic examination after irregularities were found, he will now reconsider his refusal to adopt the proposal to time-stamp police officers' notebooks where it is intended that the contents of these notebooks are to be used as evidence in court proceedings; arid if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The circumstances which led to the acquittal are being investigated by the metropolitan police under the supervision of the Police Complaints Authority. It would be wrong to make any comment or decision on any matter which may be covered by that investigation until it has been completed.
