The transportation of patients in Scotland is the prime responsibility of the Scottish ambulance service. In financial year 1986–87, costs incurred in the two Scottish ambulance service areas which include the Western Isles, the Highlands and the Borders were as follows:

costs approved by the Scottish Home and Health Department designed to examine quality of care in Scottish hospitals.
