HC Deb 24 May 1988 vol 134 cc122-3W
Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the discussions taking place between officials of Glenrothes development corporation and Quality Street housing association.

Mr. Lang

The Scottish new town development corporations regularly meet representatives of private sector companies to discuss proposals for the further development of the towns. The present discussions between Quality Street and Glenrothes development corporation represent but one example of that continuing dialogue. The present discussions are at a very preliminary stage. Should definite proposals be agreed between the parties it will then be a matter for the development corporation to approach my Department in the usual manner to seek the Secretary of State's consent. Meantime, I welcome the prospective participation of Quality Street in Glenrothes and hope that satisfactory proposals can be developed which will add to the housing options available to residents in the town.
