HC Deb 24 May 1988 vol 134 c115W
Mr. Redwood

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which office buildings, whether leasehold or freehold, in central London within the Property Services Agency control in both the civil and military estates are going to be surplus to requirements in the next four years; and what is their floor area.

Mr. Chope

It is the aim of the Property Services Agency to dispose of accommodation, whether freehold or leasehold, when it becomes surplus to Government requirements. A number of leases in central London are due to terminate during the next four years and the landlords may wish to recover possession of the buildings for refurbishment or redevelopment. The PSA will take the opportunities as and when they may arise to rationalise its holdings with the aim of minimising overall costs of accommodation to the Exchequer. Negotiations with landlords are always conducted on a commercial and therefore confidential basis. The future of office buildings in central London on the military estate is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
