HC Deb 23 May 1988 vol 134 c3W
Mr. Corbett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in theOfficial Report details of the response he has had from the Advertising Standards Authority on the nature of advertisements for the sale of firearms by mail order.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

[holding answer 20 May 1988]: The Advertising Standards Authority was not convinced that a statutory requirement of the sort proposed at Committee stage of the Firearms (Amendment) Bill on 10 March was practicable or would meet the concern expressed. The authority is considering whether the British code of advertising practice covering weapon advertising generally can be strengthened in some way.
