§ Mr. John PattenLead responsibility for race relations policy rests within the Home Office with the equal opportunities and general department. In 1987–88 the total cost, including staff costs, allocated out of Home Office expenditure to these policies was £11.6 million. Of this, £10.8 million was paid in grant in aid to the Commission for Racial Equality.
