HC Deb 19 May 1988 vol 133 c570W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what actions have been taken by Her Majesty's embassy in Bangkok concerning the situation of Mr. Sidney Clark, held in prison in Thailand.

Mr. Eggar

Mr. Clark was imprisoned in Thailand from 23 May 1980 until 1 March 1988.

Throughout that time he received consular visits at intervals of between four and 10 weeks. Her Majesty's embassy provided facilities for the transfer of funds to him from family and friends. They also negotiated with prison authorities for improvement in his diet. In June 1984 arrangements were made for him to be seen by an embassy panel doctor. He was encouraged to paint and provided with canvasses and paints. Advice was tendered about his plea for a royal pardon. Counselling of a general nature was provided.
