To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the present arrangements for an effective system of radioactivity detection in the United Kingdom.

The existing arrangements for the monitoring of radioactivity in the United Kingdom are set out in an HMSO publication "Monitoring of Radioactivity in the United Kingdom Environment", published earlier this year. A copy has been placed in the Library of the House.
