HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 c493W
Mr. Beith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services why the letter recently issued to all child benefit recipients inviting them to receive their benefits through a bank lists the advantages, but not the disadvantages, of doing so.

Mr. Scott

Child benefit recipients are sometimes initially concerned about when payment will start, notification of how much has been paid and what happens if the wrong amount is paid. These matters are explained at items 2, 3 and 4 on page 2 of the letter which also makes it quite clear that beneficiaries may continue to receive their benefit by order book if they prefer.
