HC Deb 17 May 1988 vol 133 c407W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pensioners in(a) Scotland and (b) the United Kingdom as a whole lost financially as a result of the Government's recent error in calculating the retail prices index.

Mr. Scott

It is estimated that 10,000 pensioners in Scotland and 130,000 in Great Britain were undercompensated for the error in the retail prices index as a result of having more than one benefit paid on a single order book. Of nearly 10 million pensioners, the vast majority were fully compensated for the error.
