§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations were amended in 1986 to require all cars first used from 1 April 1987 to be fitted with adult seat belts or child restraints of an approved type.
Rear seat belt anchorages have been obligatory on all new cars first used from 1 April 1982.
The seat belt amendment Bill introduced by my hon. Friend the Member for Cheadle (Mr. Day) was given its Third reading on Friday 13 May.
