§ Mr. ChurchillTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost of raising the cut-off point for community charge rebates in respect of individual's capital allowances from £6,000 to £10,000.
§ Mr. Portillo[holding answer 28 April 1988]: We estimate, on the basis of current assumptions about levels of community charge and the operation of the rebate scheme, that the difference in benefit expenditure between a capital cut-off at £6,000 and one at £10,000 for community charge rebates would be £30 million. Our intention is that the level of capital cut-off for community charge rebates will be in line with that for housing benefit, currently £8,000.
