§ Mr. MellorThe 1972 biological weapons convention prohibits the development or production of microbial, other biological agents and toxins, of types and in quantities that have no justification for prophylactic, protective or other peaceful purposes. The implications for this convention of various technological developments, including genetic engineering of micro-organisms, are considered regularly at review conferences. The next such conference will take place not later than 1991.
