HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c357W
24. Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to allow intercontinental and long-haul flights to land and take off at Glasgow airport, Abbotsinch.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The policy for the Scottish Lowlands airports remains that set out in the 1985 White Paper "Airports Policy" (Cmnd. 9542): that intercontinental and long-haul flights are only exceptionally allowed to use Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, but that this policy will be reviewed if Prestwick airport's financial results have not shown a steady improvement by 1989.
