To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police or the Metropolis about crime in Ealing in 1986 and 1987; and if he will make a statement.

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that overall crime in the Ealing division in 1987 was 7 per cent. down on that for 1986. There was an increase in arrests of 13 per cent. and the total of crimes cleared up increased by 22 per cent. Residential burglaries dropped by 9 per cent. and there was a 27 per cent. increase in arrests for this offence.
