§ Mr. Roy HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what additional funds he plans to make available to the Health Service in(a) Wales, (b) Gwent and (c) Newport.
§ Mr. GristAs a result of the Government's decision to fund in full the costs of the recently announced review218W bodies' awards to doctors, nurses and midwives and professions allied to medicine, an additional £38 million will be made available to the Health Service in Wales in the current financial year. Of this some £5 million is to be allocated to Gwent health authority. It will be the responsibility of that authority to determine its distribution within the district. The authority will also receive additional allocations during the course of the year from the £9³2 million which was earmarked for centrally directed developments when hospital and community health services' provision for 1988–89 was first announced by my right hon. Friend on 16 December 1987. To date some £900,000 of these central reserves has been set aside for approved and provisionally agreed developments in Gwent. These funds will be formally allocated to the authority as and when the developments proceed.
