HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 c117W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average time taken for the Metropolitan police to record examinations of applicants to work in children's homes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that at present it is taking on average 47 days to deal with inquiries from local authorities about applicants for posts which involve substantial access to children. Separate figures are not available for inquiries about applicants for posts in children's homes run by local authorities.
