HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 c150W
59. Mr. Jack

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what will be the effects on the United Kingdom aerospace industry of the decision by Her Majesty's Government to proceed with development of the European fighter aircraft.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The United Kingdom will have a 33 per cent. share in the development phase of the European fighter aircraft. British Aerospace and Rolls-Royce will be playing a leading role, and major opportunities will be opened up for British industry. The development phase alone will give direct long-term employment to an estimated 3,000–4,000 people in the United Kingdom.
