HC Deb 10 May 1988 vol 133 c100W
Mr. Fisher

To ask the Minister for the Arts (1) what were the costs of(a) staff, (b) equipment and maintenance, (c) temporary and other premises and accommodation, (d) training, (e) administration, (f) advertising and marketing, (g) value added tax and (h) other costs involved in introducing compulsory charges for admission to the Natural History museum in 1987–88;

(2) how many additional staff (a) were originally employed and (b) are in post now, at the Natural History museum to assist in administering admission charges.

Mr. Luce

The staffing and administration of the arrangements for the collection of admission charges at the British Museum (Natural History) are matters for the museum's trustees. I understand that the overall costs for 1987–88 were £158,000: 11 per cent. of the net income raised.
